John Wayne Gacy: Known as the “Killer Clown”, Gacy tortured, raped, and murdered 33 young men, most of whom were teenagers, from 1972 to 1978.  He was convicted on all 33 counts of murder and was executed by lethal injection in 1994 John Wayne Gacy was often referred to as the “Killer Clown” because he would frequently entertain children at parties and hospitals dressed in a clown costume and full-face makeup .  He had a character named “Pogo the Clown” that he often portrayed .  However, behind this seemingly jovial persona, Gacy was a serial killer and rapist who murdered at least 33 teenage boys and young men .  This stark contrast between his public persona and his horrific crimes led to the chilling nickname of the “Killer Clown”.
